ABOUT US
In the fall of 2009, when we drove from our home to Cleveland, Tennessee to visit a friend's new farm, we had no idea that we would soon be neighbors. We were overwhelmed with the beauty of the area with its open pastures and wooded acres and unbelievable views of the Smoky Mountains. It seemed remote, but yet still close to all the conviences of modern life. Though the farm had been neglected for a number of years, we knew that with a lot of hard work it could be a working farm again.

We spent much of our time, along with Golden Retrievers Aspen and Shadow, getting the farm ready. In the spring of 2013, we purchased our first two cows, Sally and Ginny, and later that fall, six other cows from Colorado joined our herd. In January of 2014, Thor, our bull, was purchased at the National Western, and came to our farm shortly thereafter.

Unfortunately in November of 2013 Shadow passed away. She loved to come to the farm to run and roam,  so the farm was named Shadow Mountian Farm in her memory. Aspen passed away in June of 2015 and there are aspen trees planted at the farm's entrance in her memory. Kipper, the wonder dog (a Golden-Irish Setter mix), was adopted in 2014 as a companion for Aspen. He is our only dog now and loves to spend time exploring the farm.
In September of 2013, we were fortunate enough to purchase a 1940s home and second barn that was once part of the farm. This allowed us,  along with starting our herd, to have working farm once again.
From our starting herd of 9 cows, we have expanded to a herd of 23 Highlands and 2 Herefords, with more on the way.
Because of their "fuzzy" hair, Highlands are leaner than other cows and are usually only grassfed. In this health conscious age, we feel that there is a market for Highland beef and plan to market it in the Chattanoga and surrounding areas in the near future.
